Well y'all were right.
I didn't wake up on my 27th birthday to a face full of wrinkles, a mailbox full of AARP membership solicitations, or a medicine cabinet full of Bengay and denture cream.
It's still early days for 27, but I think it's going to be a good year. And this is how I know:
So far, I spent a little time here:
Sitting here:
And looking out here:

Also, my best friend came to visit from across the country and not even a 40 degree drop in coast-to-coast temps got in her way. We ate, partook in wine (significantly less than the college versions of ourselves), went to the park, watched movies like True Grit and 17 Again (oh yes, we did), and shopped, among other fun things. We also got manicures, where I was able to continue the time-honored tradition of smudging the polish within ten minutes of leaving the nail salon.
The brevity and infrequency of our cross-country visits are buffered by the fact that it always seems like we hung out yesterday.
Everyone deserves to have a friend as awesome as Kate!
Whilst visiting, said best friend performed the rigorous BFF approval test on the BF. I've always subscribed to the "must have the approval of friends and family" school of thought, so this event was what the French call 'important.'
I've got about 40 lists with approximately 40 billion things to do, thoughts to think through, places to go, books to read, movies to see, recipes to try, reasons to be grateful, and promises of productivity for the coming year. As you may know, I love lists, so this is much more thrilling than daunting.
In the past couple of weeks, it has snowed, sleeted, and iced. So long as I'm not driving in it, I think wintry weather gives summertime a run for its money. I have my Ohio roots to thank for a fine appreciation of cold weather and winter blues be damned, I love January.
That said, spring is not far away and I love the bright colors of that season. Thanks to a recent trip to Target, this colorful little number now has a spot in my living room. Fake hydrangeas suit me perfectly since they will not wilt and die if when I forget to dust them.
Target also has bathing suits on full display, which feels beyond premature, but I cannot be upset when I support this same store busting out the holiday decorations in October.
I hope the first of twelve months in this new year is off to a wonderful start for you!

How wonderful that you got to spend time with you BFF! And, I do the same thing when I get a manicure. I always seem to ruin it. I'm so ready for spring and all the bright colors!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!! I would love to be 27 again.. (not 17 again like the movie, but 27 would be good.. LOL)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had an amazing day.. nothing like hanging out with the BFF! :)
Happy Birthday! I tell my daughter I am 27. It's a great age. I, by contrast DID get an AARP thingy in the mail this week... Ack! I am only 41~!

Happy belated birthday! That's great that your bff flew out to see you. I recently moved 1,000 miles away from my best friends, so I can truly appreciate that. That picture from her wedding it beautiful. I love the color combination.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that 27 is a good year. Since I'm a year and a half older...I can tell you that 28 is pretty fabulous as well. Everyone tells me that 29 becomes scary but I'm kinda embracing it.
ReplyDeleteHehe I was scared of 27 too. This far it hasn't been too bad.
ReplyDelete27 is a young spring chicken!
ReplyDeletedon't worry about it, jen!
but I'm glad it seems to be great so far...hopefully things will keep looking up for ya :)
hooray for spending time with BFFs! and wherever that place you were is, it looks beautiful and so much fun!
ReplyDeletei'm also not opposed to winter weather when it does not require me to drive. i just always hope its bad enough that work is closed, and we're good :)
Happy Birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteI love how you snuck the BF in there! I'm glad she gave her approval - it's so very important!!
love those pics!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, it definitely sounds like 27 is off to a great start :) That was one of my favorite years, so hopefully your experience with it is equally amazing :)
ReplyDeleteAren't BFF's great! Happy Belated Bday! Glad you enjoyed it and you didnt wake up to wrinkles AARP cards and loss of memory!
ReplyDelete27 was one of my BEST years. I would kill to have that body back! Enjoy your days in your twenties, a message from someone almost done with her 40's (and two girls who are 6 & 8!)
ReplyDeleteHave I told you recently how much I love reading your blog, your writing always inspires me to go write on mine... it doesn't always happen, but the inspiration is still there. ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THE COLORS OF SPRING TOO! I always feel so much more bubbly and giddy when the flowers begin to bloom and the grass gets a bit brighter... it's like this natural high that makes me feel so light and cheery! And while I love the feeling of being cozy under blankets, sipping hot cocoa and watching movies... I do not share your feelings of winter. I can handle it until the end of January, and then I start to complain.
Thanks for the well wishes! :)
ReplyDeleteoh what a fabulous post, i miss you already friendito! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's such a beautiful location - and how wonderful to celebrate with besties!! :) Happy Belated Birthday to you!
